Tiny Puppy Training

Precisely why dog lovers have got this preconceived view that small breed puppies are more difficult to discipline than medium sized or larger dogs, I will never be able to figure out. Housebreaking a puppy, despite its size should never be difficult.

Small dog training, is not all different from training a dog of any other bigger sized breed. Whereas training any puppy will have its peculiarities, pertaining to its breed, most all other facets remain identical, and the method to training the canine should stay the same, regardless its size.

Never the less, I will make an exception here, and say yes to the argument that small dog training may pose complications in two arenas, (1) Aggression and (2) Puppy crate training. Nonetheless, this is not because the dog is small breed, but ten times out of ten, because of the owner.

If a smallish breed puppy dog is aggressive and is difficult to train, or if a smallish breed puppy cannot be crate trained or poses challenges in being bathroom trained, it is the owner who has unwittingly contributed to this state of affairs. Let us investigate how and why.

Aggression.

Smallish dogs are loved because they are sweet, they are like toys. Owners delight in having their puppy sit on their laps. This kind of indulgence is where the complication commences. The inherent aggressive character of the canine, is to take ownership over its domain, its food, even its trainer; all puppies need to be the alpha dog.

It is the violent streak in the puppy that induces it to place itself on the lap of its master, specially when there are a number of humans seated in the room.

This is a obvious act of hostility. Instead of chiding the puppy, every owner with the exception of none, would cuddle the puppy, although it jumped on to their lap without being called, fostering the aggressive streak in the pup. Therefore the owner has okayed the puppy's instinct to be the alpha dog.

Growling and getting angry at a much bigger dog is another blatant act of violence. To the owner, and even the people nearby, this is seen as cute, simply because one dog is tiny while the other is larger. Most owners shower affection on the dog instead of scolding it, when it demonstrates this aggression with a larger dog.

These are but illustrations as to why smaller breed puppies are aggressive, and positively not because small dog training is very difficult.

Bathroom Training

Owners tend to carry their small pups around where ever they are, even when they are in the house and that renders it impossible to potty train them

It is, as if by second nature that the owners of smallish breed dogs to carry the animal to the spot where the dog should go to the toilet and then lug it back into the house.

It is this practice of carrying the puppy to the outdoors to poop that is the start of all roadblocks. In addition, as the pup is normally carried around all the time it has no way of it telling or notifying the owner that it has to make its business.

Small dog training starts off with treating the dog as any other normal dog. They have to be transported to their toilet area on a leash. If owners avoid carrying their tiny breed dogs they would be very successful in training them.

Dog crate training, is the most important part of pup training, and so it has to be, even in Small Dog Training.
